Stalin to discuss fishermen’s issues in Ramanathapuram on August 18
Chennai (IANS). Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to visit Ramanathapuram district on Friday to discuss the issues faced by the fishermen community.
Fishermen along the Tamil Nadu coast are facing a tough situation due to regular arrests and “threats” and seizure of mechanized boats by the Sri Lankan Navy for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
A fisherman from Ramanathapuram, R. “We are hoping that Chief Minister Stalin will take up our issue with the central government and find a permanent solution. The Sri Lankan Navy arrests us and takes us to the island nation. We are put in jail,” Mohd Ismail told IANS. and they may leave us after two to three weeks. The fishermen of Ramanathapuram have been continuously demanding the construction of fishing harbor at Mandapam, Thangachimadam and other suitable places in the district.
