Stitchless aortic valve implanted in woman’s heart, Mekahara doctors create history
Raipur. The heart surgery department of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital has done a wonderful job of implanting bioprosthetic aortic heart valve without stitches for the first time in central India. The operation was done completely free of cost by Dr. Krushnakant Sahu, Head of the Department of Heart Surgery and the team under Dr. Khubchand Baghel Swasthya Sahayata Yojana.
The team leader of Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI) of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, who created a new history by installing sutureless aortic valve in the heart of a 65-year-old woman. Krishnakant Sahu told that this valve is used in those patients who fall in the high risk category such as excessive aging (after 60 years) and weakening of the pumping power of the heart.
Dr. Sahu told that the advantage of installing this valve is that the valve is implanted in just 15 to 20 minutes, which reduces the patient’s cardio pulmonary bypass time, due to which the CPB machine is used in the patient’s body. The side effects are greatly reduced. The patient gets a lot of valve area, due to which the flow of blood in the patient’s body is more as compared to other valves. By applying this valve, the patient does not need to take blood thinner medicine.
