Strict Restrictions Around Counting Centers in Guwahati; Administration on Alert for Peace and Security

Assam: The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has implemented stringent security and public order measures in Guwahati in view of the vote counting scheduled for May 4. To ensure that no disorder or breach of public peace occurs during the counting process, the administration has issued prohibitory orders in the vicinity of the counting center.
According to an official order issued by the District Administration, a complete ban has been imposed on bursting firecrackers, setting off fireworks, organizing victory processions, and raising slogans within a 200-meter radius of the Maniram Dewan Trade Center. This venue has been designated as the official counting center.
These restrictions will come into effect at 12:00 AM (midnight) on May 4, 2026, and will remain in force until 11:59 PM on the same day. Furthermore, should the formal announcement of the election results take longer than anticipated, these restrictions will remain applicable until the entire process is concluded.
This order has been issued by Swapneel Paul, the District Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro). It has been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, with the objective of preventing any potential emergency situations and maintaining law and order.
The administration has clarified that on the day of the vote counting, a large number of political workers and supporters are likely to gather around the center, which could potentially lead to overcrowding and tense situations. Under these circumstances, maintaining public order remains the utmost priority.
Instructions have been issued to the District Administration and the police force to fortify security arrangements around the counting center. In addition to the deployment of additional police personnel, special teams have also been constituted to conduct surveillance.
Officials have stated that strict measures are being taken to prevent any form of violence, rumor-mongering, or untoward activities during the vote counting process. An appeal has also been made to all political parties and their supporters to maintain peace and tranquility.
Furthermore, the administration has urged the public to refrain from organizing any form of victory processions or public demonstrations and to strictly adhere to the law. Strict action will be initiated against anyone found in violation of these orders.
Security agencies remain on high alert regarding the vote counting, and heightened surveillance is being maintained in sensitive areas. The objective of the administration is to ensure that the entire process is conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.
