Successful rescue operation in Silkyara tunnel, Gadkari praised
New Delhi: As soon as the news of successful rescue operation of 41 workers from Silkyara Tunnel came on Tuesday evening, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari heaved a sigh of relief and thanked various rescue teams engaged in the operation for several days.
Speaking on ‘X’, Gadkari praised the multiple agencies involved in the rescue and called the efforts “well coordinated”.
“I am completely relieved and happy because 41 laborers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel accident have been successfully rescued,” Gadkari said on the occasion.
“It was a coordinated effort by multiple agencies, making it one of the most significant rescue operations in recent years,” he said. “Despite facing many challenges, various departments and agencies complement each other.”
Gadkari said in his post, “I express my gratitude to every agency and individual involved in this rescue operation. Deeply appreciates the international rescue experts, administrative authorities and the Government of Uttarakhand for their prompt and effective response.”
The much-awaited breakthrough was achieved on Tuesday evening when all 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel were rescued safely.
As the stranded workers finally saw light at the end of the tunnel, locals were seen jubilant at the tunnel site and exchanging sweets.
Union Minister of State General (Retd) VK Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also met all the 41 people who were rescued from the collapsed tunnel after 17 days of hard work.
Harpal Singh, project head of Zoji-La Tunnel, said, “The exact time of breakthrough was 7:05 pm. Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation General VK Singh is present there.”
On November 12, a portion of the tunnel caved in, with debris falling within a 60-meter section of the Silkyara side of the tunnel, trapping 41 workers inside the structure under construction.
