Suicide of female Agniveer trainee, order for investigation into death
New Delhi: An official statement issued by the Defense PRO on Tuesday said that an inquiry has been ordered into the alleged suicide of a 20-year-old woman undergoing Agniveer training at INS Hamla.
Defense PRO said, “The unfortunate incident of unnatural death of 20-year-old Aparna V Nair of Agniveer Logistics (F&A) occurred at INS Hamla, Mumbai on 27 November. An inquiry has been ordered by the Indian Navy to investigate the incident.” ,
Earlier today, Mumbai Police said that the woman was undergoing training at INS Hamla at the time of the incident.
Police said, “A 20-year-old woman, who was undergoing training for Agniveer in the Navy, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself. According to an official, Malvani police have registered an ADR and are taking further action.”
Further investigation is underway.
Under the Agneepath scheme in the Indian Armed Forces, selected candidates are enrolled as Agniveer for a period of four years.
