Surat: Environment conference organized with joint efforts of Chamber and GPCP

An ‘Environment Convention’ in a joint initiative of South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Gujarat Pollution Control Board on 15th April, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Platinum Hall, Surat International Exhibition & Convention Centre, Sarsana was organized. In which Forest and Environment and Climate Change Minister of Gujarat Mulubhai Bera was present as the chief guest. Gujarat’s Minister of State for Forest and Environment and Climate Change Mukesh Patel was present as the special guest on the occasion. Santosh Mundhada, Executive Director, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd. was the chief guest.

Chamber President Himanshu Bodawala said in the welcome speech that due to the increasing population in India, the number of petrol-diesel vehicles is continuously increasing. The amount of carbon in the atmosphere is increasing due to petroleum products used in industrial production and that is why we are experiencing more heat than before. To deal with all these situations, recycling waste water policies, renewable energy policies and electric vehicle usage policies have been formulated by the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. The environment of the city will be clean only by keeping the industrial activities away from the city, that’s why the government is setting up the biggest parks away from the cities in the country.

The PM Mitra Park at Vansi Borsi in Navsari near Surat is also a reflection of the same policies of the government. Dyeing and printing mills and waterjet units in Surat city will be shifted to PM Mitra Park, which will definitely reduce the carbon concentration of Surat city. In today’s conclave, environmental experts briefed about the laws and regulations related to environmental protection of the Central Government and the State Government and the policies of the government in this regard.

Gujarat Forest and Environment and Climate Change Minister Mulubhai Bera said that the ‘Emissions Trading Scheme Project’ which has made Surat famous globally is the unique feature of Surat. Along with environmental protection, the government is making efforts towards sustainable development of industries. For this, the work of seven new CETP plants and eight sewage treatment plants is going on. Today many developed countries like Germany, Japan are ready to join hands with Surat administration and industries regarding environment. The government has started a dream project where the water generated from every common effluent treatment plant in Gujarat can be discharged into the distant sea after treatment.

He urged the industrial houses of the state to participate in the development journey of the state for environment protection. He informed about the efforts of the state government to deal with pollution while saying that the doors of the state government are open for requests from industrial houses.
