Suspected dacoits lost their lives in mob lynching in southwest Garo Hills
An angry mob of villagers beat three people to death on suspicion of their involvement in robbery cases in Rangsakona area of south-west Garo Hills, resulting in the death of two suspects on Sunday night. After this incident, Garobadha outpost police had to intervene, who became alert to the situation in Jaluagre (Mangsangitim) village.
On reaching the village, the police detained three men who were seriously attacked by the roadside. The police immediately took all three to Garobadha Primary Health Center hospital, but two of the attackers died during treatment.
The deceased were identified as Balen G. Sangma (30) and Skeen D. Shira (30). The sole survivor, Betuvel D. Shira (22), is currently hospitalized and has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Tura for further medical treatment.
At the scene of the incident, police seized a Maruti 800 car, blood-stained wood, a mobile handset, a Khukri dagger, various identity cards, Rs 1700 in cash, a seal in the name of the president of the United Garo People’s Forum. (UGPF), South Western Region Ampati Headquarters Tura, and a notebook containing the names of office bearers of the United Garo People Forum (UGPF), Ampati Region, South West Garo Hills.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the mortuary of Ampati Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The police have taken suo motu cognizance and registered a case in this regard and the investigation is ongoing.
According to the police, two of the three have a criminal history and have been previously arrested in various cases related to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, Arms Act etc. in South West Garo Hills district. The police have urged anyone with information about the miscreants involved in this illegal act to inform the local police station, ensuring that their identity will be kept confidential and an appropriate reward will be given.
The police have also advised the public not to take law into their own hands and refrain from getting involved in crimes. Officials have warned that the police will take strict and necessary action.
