Suvendu Adhikari Takes Jibe At CM Mamata Banerjee’s Foreign Trip, Labels It ‘vacation’
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s 12-day tour of Spain and the UAE has ignited a political slugfest, as Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari dubbed the CM’s foreign visit ‘vacation’ and added that only a gathering of “G420” can be achieved with this.
Adhikari took to the microblogging platform X to criticise the CM, asserting, “Realising that no official work or business has been attended to; a press release was issued to create a perception back home that some official work has been done.”
Adhikari took to social media platform X and said, “Those who have tried to attempt to draw a parallel between Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s foreign trips with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s foreign vacation, let me tell you the difference:- While Hon’ble PM’s strategic trips first laid the foundation for our country to be recognized as one with growing prominence to now being regarded as ‘Vishwa Mitra’ who can proudly host a successful G20. On the other hand, judging by the current regime’s & ruling Tolamool party’s hobnob with corruption in WB, the only thing which might be achieved after CM’s trip/vacation is a successful gathering of G420.”
Adhikari went ahead to point out a TMC release that discussed introducing the Spanish language in Bengal institutes. He retorted, “There are already quite a few institutes in Kolkata that have been imparting Spanish language courses.”
“The most prestigious of them being the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture (RMIC) at Golpark, where the Spanish language has been taught for decades,” he added.
Further unleashing a scathing attack, Adhikari argued that Banerjee and her companions appeared to be “enjoying a nice time in the Spanish capital”.
“But at the same time why are they trying to fool the people of Bengal by creating a perception that they are achieving something unprecedented?” he said.
CM Mamata Banerjee returns after a 12-day-long foreign visit
CM Banerjee returned to India on Saturday after a 12-day tour of Spain and the UAE and landed at the Kolkata airport around 7 PM, saying that she was happy as she could do something for West Bengal. She added that her trip to attract investments to the state was “very successful”.
“It was a very good trip. I have never seen such a successful tour in my life. I am happy that I could do so much for Bengal,” the chief minister told reporters at the airport here.
She further added, “The meetings were organised by the FICCI and the Indian Chamber of Commerce. There were major MoUs signed.” Banerjee, along with Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and other senior officials, industrialists, and representatives of three major football clubs—Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, and Mohammedan Sporting—left for the tour of Spain and Dubai on September 12, primarily to attract investments to the state ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit scheduled for November.
