Systemic attack on democracy by strangulating institutions: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge
New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on International Democracy Day that in recent times there has been a systemic attack on democracy by strangulating the institutions built with hard work by the makers of our Constitution. He urged people to take a pledge to protect the ethos of parliamentary democracy. In a post on Taking a dig at the BJP without naming it, Kharge said, “The will of the people and the institutions they help build are what enable democracy to flourish. In recent times, there has been a systemic attack on democracy by strangulating our institutions, which the framers of our Constitution painstakingly built.” The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said, “On International Democracy Day, let us Resolve to protect and preserve the ethos of our parliamentary democracy rooted in independent institutions.” His comments came ahead of a five-day special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22. Congress had earlier targeted the government for not allowing the opposition to speak in Parliament.
