Bhopal: Police kidnapped a student who was travelling in a bus. They accused him of chasing him and catching him with drugs. A false case was registered and he was sent to jail. (Police Kidnap Student) However, CCTV footage and other evidence revealed that the police had faked the case. The incident took place in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. 18-year-old Sohan, a student of class 12 from Malhargarh in Mandsaur district, was travelling in a bus on August 29.
Meanwhile, the Malhargarh police chased the bus in their vehicle and stopped it. They boarded it and detained Sohan. They posed in front of the media as if they had arrested a big drug lord. The police officer said in a press meet that they chased the accused and caught him with 2.7 kg of opium. He was produced in court and sent to jail.
On December 5, Sohan’s parents approached the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, alleging that the police had kidnapped their son, illegally arrested him, registered a false case, and fabricated false evidence. They placed before the court CCTV footage of Sohan being detained by the police in a bus, along with other evidence and witnesses.
Meanwhile, the Indore bench of the High Court, which heard the case, was shocked by the evidence. It ordered Mandsaur SP Vinod Kumar Meena to appear in person in court. The SP appeared in court on December 9. He admitted that his police had kidnapped an innocent student from a bus and registered a false case. He told the court that the six policemen responsible had been suspended. He explained that a departmental inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
On the other hand, Malhargarh police station was ranked ninth among the best police stations in the country last month. However, the kidnapping of a student by the police station and its involvement in a fake drug case created a stir. In this context, doubts were raised about the rank achieved by the police station and criticism was leveled against the police.
