Tamil Nadu: Government doctors adamant on salary hike announcement in council meeting

Tamil Nadu: The Government Doctors’ Association has appealed to the government to make announcements in the upcoming legislative session that will meet the doctors’ demands.
Regarding this, Dr. Perumal Pillai, Chairman of the Legal Action Committee for Government Doctors, issued a statement:
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the ‘Tell Me Your Dream’ scheme. However, his promises to increase the salaries of government doctors have long remained a dream, unfulfilled.
Students generally dream of becoming doctors. But 19,000 government doctors have been dreaming for years that they will one day receive their due salary.
Government doctors in Tamil Nadu, who continue to serve the people despite numerous difficulties, including the COVID-19 pandemic, receive the lowest salaries in the country. Tamil Nadu today leads many states in reducing maternal and child mortality.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu has topped the national rankings for organ transplants for the past six years. The demands of the government doctors responsible for these achievements are being consistently ignored. Therefore, we request that an announcement be made in the legislative session beginning on the 20th to increase the salaries of government doctors. The wife of Vivekanandan, a government doctor who died while working during the COVID-19 pandemic, be given a government job.
It also calls for an announcement to double the number of doctors and nurses in Tamil Nadu’s government hospitals.
