Maharashtra: Sources said that the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) owes ₹63.25 crore in water charges to the Water Resources Department. Following the recent CSMC elections, the department has decided to send a notice to the newly elected mayor to recover the outstanding amount. Sources stated that during the administrator’s tenure, the CSMC collected approximately ₹11 crore in water taxes from the public.
Each year, the CSMC draws 58 TMC of water from the Jayakwadi Dam through two pipelines. After the implementation of the new water supply project, approximately 65 TMC of water will be supplied to the city each year.
Of the total outstanding amount of ₹63.25 crore, the actual water charges amount to ₹25.10 crore, while ₹38.17 crore includes late payment charges. Officials said that the late charges exceed the principal amount.
