Bihar: In Bihar, motorists using state highways, major bridges, bypasses, and tunnels will now be required to pay toll tax. The state government issued a notification on Monday, the Bihar Road User Fee (Determination and Collection of Rates) Rules, 2026, marking the implementation of the new toll tax policy in Bihar.
Under the new system, the state government will now collect user fees for the use of road facilities and infrastructure. A complete toll tax collection plan will be developed based on this policy.
Toll rates will be determined based on road width.

According to the rules, 60 percent of the prescribed toll amount will be charged on state highways with a width of more than two lanes but less than four lanes.
On roads with a width of four lanes or more, motorists will be required to pay 100 percent of the prescribed toll rate. This means that the full prescribed amount will be charged for using better and wider roads.
Furthermore, toll tax will be levied at 50 percent of the prescribed fee on roads with intermediate lanes, approximately 5.5 meters wide.
The system will also apply to major bridges and bypasses.
