Sengottaiyan met Vijay after resigning as MLA

Tamil Nadu: Former minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, who was expelled from the AIADMK, resigned as MLA from Gopichettipalayam on Wednesday.

Subsequently, Sengottaiyan met with THAVEKA leader Vijay at his home, confirming his joining the THAVEKA.

Sengottaiyan, a former minister who promoted the idea of unifying the AIADMK, met with former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and V.K. Sasikala at the Devar Jayanti celebrations in Pasumpon last month. Following this, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami took action by removing him from the party’s core membership.

Following this, speculation began about Sengottaiyan’s political future. In response, Sengottaiyan arrived at the Secretariat in Chennai on Wednesday morning and met with Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu and submitted his resignation letter as MLA. The Speaker accepted it.

Earlier, as news spread that Sengottaiyan would join the Thavega, Hindu Religious and Endowments Minister P.K. Sekhar Babu, who had arrived in Chennai, met with Sengottaiyan at his home in Pattinapakkam. Following this, Minister Sekhar Babu spoke with Sengottaiyan for over half an hour in the Speaker’s chamber. Details of what was discussed in that meeting were not released.

Subsequently, Sengottaiyan met with Thavega leader Vijay at his home in Pattinapakkam, Chennai, on Wednesday evening. This meeting confirmed Sengottaiyan’s joining the Thavega. It is being said that he will soon formally join the Thavega and will be given a key responsibility.

No By-elections Possibly: Sengottaiyan’s resignation has left four seats vacant in the Assembly. These seats were already vacant due to the deaths of AIADMK MLA Amul Kandasamy from the Valparai constituency and DMK MLA K. Ponnusamy from the Senthamangalam constituency. Similarly, the resignation of AIADMK MLA Manoj Pandian (Alankulam) also left a vacancy.

With less than six months remaining for the Assembly elections, there is no possibility of by-elections for the four seats.
