Indore: I-Bus passengers face problems after BRTS is removed

Madhya Pradesh: Every day, over 55,000 commuters rely on iBus to travel across the city. The removal of the BRTS corridor was intended to reduce traffic congestion and improve road mobility, but instead, it has created new challenges for commuters.

During peak hours, iBus frequency has decreased, leading to increased waiting times and severe overcrowding. Shifting stops to roadside locations and the absence of conductors at many locations has raised serious concerns about passenger convenience and safety, especially for women and the elderly.

The iBus route connecting Scheme No. 78 and Rajiv Gandhi Square has experienced significant delays. Buses now get stuck in regular traffic, negating the intended benefits of removing the corridor. The increased waiting times lead to sudden rushes when buses arrive, and passengers rush to board. Women often stand near the driver’s compartment, reducing visibility and increasing safety risks. The absence of conductors further compounds these challenges.

Sanand Sinha, a graduate from New Government Law College, said she rides the iBus daily and finds the crowds and absence of ticket checkers at stops like Press Complex, Satyasai, and LIG a concern. Spoorthi A, an Accenture employee, spoke of confusion caused by the outdated automated announcements on the buses.
