Food safety drive launched due to roasted chickpeas; samples taken from two shops.

Madhya Pradesh: The Food Safety Department took action to investigate the potential use of a banned color in roasted chickpeas in the Siyaganj area and collected samples from two shops in Indore district on Tuesday.
This action was taken after reports emerged that an inedible industrial dye called Auramine was being illegally used, allegedly to make the roasted chickpeas more appealing.
According to officials, the team visited two locations in Siyaganj and collected four samples of roasted chickpeas from Maa Vaishno Traders and Jain Chana Parmal. These samples have been sealed and will be sent to a laboratory for testing to determine the presence of Auramine. Officials said that further action against the concerned traders will be taken only after the test reports are received. If the samples are found to be unsafe or in violation of food safety regulations, strict action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
