Lauhuka: The land of freedom fighters and martyrs.

Punjab: Several villagers made extraordinary sacrifices for the country, proving their patriotism and bringing glory to Lahuka village. The villagers also participated in the freedom struggle and religious movements. Many rendered exemplary service to society. It was a matter of great pride that 134 villagers participated in the First World War (1914-1919), of whom 11 laid down their lives. To pay tribute to the brave martyrs, the villagers erected a memorial stone on the outer wall of the village’s government primary school, which they viewed with pride. The stone bore an inscription commemorating the First World War.
Subedar Saudagar Singh, son of Gurdit Singh, was one of the 11 martyrs who were martyred on December 21, 1914. Two villagers were martyred in the Ghadar movement, and one in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Other heroes included those associated with Saka Nankana Sahib, Morcha Babbar Akali, and Morcha Gangsar Jaito. A resident of Lahuka, Harnam Singh Zakhmi, was a Hazoori Raagi at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Patiala, and had two daughters, the elder of whom, Manjit Kaur, was married to Union Minister Buta Singh, while the other daughter, Darshan Kaur, retired after serving as a DPI in Punjab.
