Boeing cuts 180 jobs in Bengaluru as a part of global workforce trimming

American plane manufacturer Boeing has terminated about 180 employees at its engineering technology center in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This is as part of the global exercise of trimming its workforce worldwide by approximately 10%. The termination was in the December quarter of 2024, according to a source.

The company employs about 7,000 people in India, an important market for Boeing. Although there was no announcement from the company, the source indicated that “strategic adjustments” were executed to impact minimal positions without hurting customers or government activities. Some positions were eliminated, and new ones were added to sustain customer service, safety, and quality levels.

Boeing’s business in India is sizable, as the company buys a reported $1.25 billion in products annually from over 300 suppliers. Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center located in Bengaluru and Chennai undertakes complex aerospace work. Boeing’s campus in Bengaluru is one of its biggest investments globally outside the US.

The layoffs in India were more cautious, with efforts to preserve customer service and quality levels. Although the action forms part of Boeing’s worldwide restructuring exercise, the company is still committed to its business in India.
