Mechuka becomes Asia’s representative venue in Adventure Racing World Series
Guwahati: Mechuka, a picturesque town in the Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, is set to host India’s and Asia’s only Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) qualifier in November 2026, ahead of the AR World Championship 2027.
The event is a major boost for Arunachal Pradesh’s adventure tourism sector and is expected to attract elite racing teams from around the world, showcasing Mechuka’s mountainous terrain, unique indigenous culture, and high-altitude challenges.
Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona inaugurated the event, which was attended by representatives from Australia and other participating teams.
Officials say the ARWS qualifier will boost eco-tourism, border tourism, filmmaking potential, and global visibility in the region.
This recognition comes after Mechuka’s recent adventure achievements. In April 2025, the city hosted the third Border National Adventure Racing Cycle Championship, with 22 teams, including international participants from Malaysia. Despite road blockages and highway construction, over 90 people participated, reflecting Mechuka’s growing popularity among adventure enthusiasts.
Located in the Eastern Himalayas near the sensitive China border, Mechuka is renowned for its beautiful scenery and the warm hospitality of the Monpas.
Hosting this international qualifier highlights Mechuka’s growing role in adventure sports in India.
