An active member of RPF/PLA has been arrested in Imphal on charges of extortion

Imphal: Manipur Police on Friday, December 19, arrested Thangjam Surankumar Singh, 29, an active member of the banned group Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), in connection with extortion.
He is also known by the aliases Rajesh, Achou, and Luwangcha, and hails from Pourabi Awang Leikai in Imphal East district.
The arrest took place at Meitei Lamkhai Crossing under Singjamei Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Authorities recovered a mobile phone with SIM card, a wallet containing an Aadhaar card, and Rs 300 in cash from the accused.
Police said further investigations are ongoing to determine his involvement in extortion and potential links with other members of the proscribed outfit.
Meanwhile, security forces are continuing search operations and maintaining a strong presence in vulnerable areas across several districts to prevent any untoward incidents.
As part of the heightened security measures, 114 nakas and checkpoints have been established across Manipur, covering both hill and valley districts.
No further arrests were reported during these operations.
Authorities also ensured the safe transit of 69 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway-37.
Armed security convoys have been deployed along sensitive stretches, and strict arrangements are in place at key locations to facilitate secure and uninterrupted movement of supplies.
