E-filing process in lower courts: SC order

Tamil Nadu: The Madras High Court postponed the hearing on the e-filing process in lower courts, stating that a final decision would be taken after the Pongal festival.
On behalf of the Federation of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Bar Associations, R. Krishnakumar, Secretary of the Chennai High Court Bar Association, stated that lawyers are facing significant difficulties in filing all cases through e-filing in the various petitions filed in the Chennai High Court.
There is insufficient infrastructure to follow this process. Therefore, on October 6th, we submitted a detailed petition to the Supreme Court requesting that this process be stopped. However, starting December 1st, an order was issued requiring all cases to be filed exclusively through e-filing.
Filing petitions online takes a significant amount of time. Court staff also lack technical experience. This is due to several reasons, which is why this e-filing practice should be stopped. Therefore, it was stated that cases should also be filed directly in court.
The decision was delivered on Tuesday by a bench comprising Chief Justice M.M. Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan. Senior lawyer S. Prabhakaran and Supreme Court Bar Association President G. Mohanakrishnan appeared and argued on behalf of the petitioners. The judges hearing the case adjourned the hearing, stating that a proper decision would be taken after the Pongal festival.
E-filing process suspended: Meanwhile, Chennai High Court Chief Registrar S. Alli issued a notification stating that the e-filing process in lower courts is being suspended until the next hearing.
