High-tech surgery at Chennai’s Rajiv Gandhi Hospital saves two women’s lives

Tamil Nadu: Doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai have successfully saved the lives of two women through a complex and high-tech surgery. Both patients were admitted to the hospital in critical and life-threatening conditions due to swelling and rupture of a major blood vessel.

Hospital Principal Dr. Shantaraman and Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar stated that a 40-year-old woman was brought to the hospital complaining of swelling and persistent pain in her neck. This problem had been plaguing her for approximately one and a half years. Upon examination, doctors discovered that her left subclavian artery had been swollen and partially ruptured. This condition is medically known as a subclavian aneurysm.

According to doctors, this blood vessel carries oxygen-rich blood to the brain, neck, and arms. When this blood vessel weakens, a portion of it begins to swell like a balloon, a condition known as an aneurysm. This condition is extremely dangerous because, if not treated promptly, it can rupture, posing a serious threat to the patient’s life.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the team of doctors immediately performed an endovascular stenting procedure. This technique involves inserting a special stent device through a blood vessel, controlling the swollen area and ensuring safe blood flow. Doctors explained that this procedure is extremely sensitive and requires precision.

The patient’s condition improved after the surgery, although swelling recurred in the same area during the treatment, which was immediately controlled by the doctors. The treatment was successfully completed under the supervision of the entire medical team, and both patients’ lives were saved.

The hospital administration stated that this success was the result of modern medical technology and the teamwork of experienced doctors. Performing such a complex surgery in a government hospital is considered a significant achievement for the medical field.

The doctors also stated that with timely diagnosis and proper treatment, even in such serious cases, a patient’s life can be saved. This case exemplifies how advanced technology and quick decisions play a vital role in saving lives.
