Forest department recovered 250 weapons and 54 vehicles

Tamil Nadu: The government has taken a major step to strengthen the security and patrol capabilities of the Forest Department. Forest Minister R.V. Ranjit Kumar on Wednesday flagged off the delivery of 250 modern weapons to the Tamil Nadu Forest Force and inaugurated 54 new patrol vehicles. The event was held at the National Children’s Park in Guindy, Chennai, where a special ceremony was organized by the Forest Department.

This initiative is part of the Tamil Nadu Forest Force Modernization Project, which aims to equip the forest protection forces with modern resources and enhance their efficiency on the ground. On this occasion, the Forest Minister handed over a total of 250 modern weapons to the Forest Force, including 204-12 bore pump action rifles and 46-9 mm automatic pistols.

A large number of officials and Forest Department employees were present at the event. These weapons are specifically for use in areas where there is a high need for wildlife conservation and monitoring of illegal activities. The department believes that these modern weapons will improve both the safety and effectiveness of forest personnel.

Additionally, 54 new patrol vehicles were flagged off at the event. The total cost of these vehicles is estimated to be approximately ₹3.91 crore. These vehicles have been provided for the use of frontline Forest Department workers, enabling them to better patrol forests and protected areas and respond promptly to any emergency.

According to Forest Department officials, these vehicles and weapons are an important step towards strengthening the forest protection system. There has long been a need for modern resources to control illegal logging, poaching, and other activities in forest areas. This new system is expected to improve patrolling and monitoring capabilities.

Minister R.V. Ranjithkumar stated on the occasion that the state government prioritizes the safety and efficiency of forest personnel. He stated that providing better equipment and facilities to the Forest Department’s frontline staff is part of the government’s commitment. He also stated that the use of modern technology and resources will make forest conservation work more effective.

The Forest Department stated that the modernization project will continue to upgrade equipment and vehicles in several phases. The aim is to further strengthen security in forest areas and provide a better working environment for employees.

This program is being considered a significant achievement for the Forest Department, as the department has long experienced a lack of modern equipment. The induction of new weapon systems and vehicles will now empower the forest force and make it more technologically capable.

This initiative is considered crucial for wildlife conservation and forest protection. Experts believe that the availability of modern resources will not only curb illegal activities but also enable prompt response in emergencies.

The state government has indicated that plans will be underway to improve technology and increase resources in additional areas of the Forest Department in the future. This initiative is considered a significant step towards strengthening the state’s forest protection infrastructure.
