The head constable at the SP’s office has been suspended, caught in a bribery scandal.

Korba. A case of demanding a bribe in the name of character verification has come to light in the district. A head constable posted at the SP’s office has been suspended on this charge. This action was taken after a complaint from a young man who had come for character verification for a job at NTPC.

The complainant, Deepak Sahu (21), a resident of Dhodhipara, Puske CSEB, Civil Line Rampur police station area, filed a complaint at the office on December 20, 2025. He stated that a person present in the office demanded Rs. 1000 from him in exchange for the character verification report.

Deepak Sahu works as a hydra operator at NTPC in Raigarh and needed a police certificate for gate pass renewal. He alleged that Head Constable Suryakant Dwivedi demanded a bribe of Rs. 1000 and promised to issue the certificate immediately.
