Taking woman hostage and looting valuables worth Rs 3 lakh
In another incident raising questions over the law and order situation in the state, robbers threatened a woman with a knife and looted valuables from her house. This incident happened in broad daylight on Tuesday in Mangaldai town of Assam.
A heart-wrenching incident happened in the heart of Mangaldai city on Tuesday morning. Two robbers entered the residence of Murari Lal Pradhan, located next to the popular SRD fine dining eatery. When the robbers came in, only a woman and her daughter were at home. The robbers stabbed them with knives and looted their jewellery, including rings, chains and bangles.
The family members, who reached their residence after the robbers left, mentioned that the robbers might have used some intoxicants before threatening the woman. He also told that jewelery worth about three lakh rupees was looted. The victims lodged a complaint with the local police. A team from the police station also visited the location and collected footage captured by nearby closed circuit cameras to identify the robbers.
It may be noted that the location of the robbery is less than 500 meters from the nearest police station. In such a situation, local people raised the question that how could the robbers carry out this incident, that too in broad daylight.
Earlier, robbers had looted valuables from the Durga Puja celebrations after the festival concluded. The incident took place in the pandal of North Mangaldai Sarbojanin Durga Puja Mandap on Wednesday, a day after Dashami. Two miscreants looted many valuables from the premises where the puja was celebrated. They stole many valuable tools and utensils made of brass and bell metal from the premises.
