Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain likely in 6 districts today

Tamil Nadu: Thunderstorms and light to moderate rain may occur in many areas. This change is attributed to fluctuations in atmospheric conditions.

A central government release states that a disturbance in the wind flow persists from northern interior Karnataka to southern interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, extending to the Gulf of Mannar. Consequently, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on April 30, May 1, and May 2.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain may occur at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts on April 30. Following this, rain is expected in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Theni districts on May 1. The rains are expected to intensify on May 2nd, with isolated rain expected in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Virudhunagar districts.

Meanwhile, temperatures have also increased significantly. On Wednesday, the highest temperature in Tamil Nadu was recorded at 106.7 degrees Fahrenheit in Vellore. Madurai Airport and Paramathivellur recorded 104.36 degrees Celsius, Trichy 104.18 degrees Celsius, Erode and Madurai city 103.28 degrees Celsius, Tiruttani 103.1 degrees Celsius, Chennai Meenambakkam 102.74 degrees Celsius, Dharmapuri 102.2 degrees Celsius, Tirupattur 101.28 degrees Celsius, Namakkal 101.3 degrees Celsius, and Thanjavur and Nagapattinam 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Meteorological Department has also stated that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions are likely to remain above normal between April 30 and May 3. Heat is expected to increase further in many areas during this period. On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Chennai and Puducherry is expected to reach around 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

The intense heat and increased humidity may cause discomfort for people. The Meteorological Department has indicated that hot winds and humidity will prevail during the day, while rain in some areas may bring a partial change in the weather.

Given this overall weather change, a mixed effect of both heat and rain is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu for the next few days. The department is continuously monitoring the situation and issuing updates from time to time.
