Tamil Nadu: Mettur Dam water level rises despite decrease in inflow

Tamil Nadu: Updated information has emerged regarding the inflow and water level at Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu. The inflow into the dam was recorded at 2,161 cubic feet per second for the past two days, which dropped to 2,067 cubic feet per second on Saturday morning. Despite this, the water level at the dam is steadily rising.
According to information received, water is being released from the dam at a rate of 1,000 cubic feet per second for drinking water supply and other needs. However, the water level is rising due to a lack of balance between the inflow and the discharge.
According to the Water Resources Department, the water level continues to rise as long as the inflow into the dam is high and the discharge from the outlet is low. This situation persists even now, leading to a gradual increase in the water level at Mettur Dam.
According to the latest data, the dam’s water level has risen from 78.97 feet to 79.04 feet. While this increase may seem minor, officials are closely monitoring the continuously rising water level. Department officials say the situation is currently under control and there is no cause for concern, but the flow of water is being continuously monitored.
Water storage at the dam also remains strong. According to available information, the total water reserve at Mettur Dam is recorded at 40.93 TMC. This storage is considered crucial for agriculture and drinking water supply, especially given the expected demand in the coming days.
According to experts, the balance between inflow and outflow is crucial for the dam. If inflow decreases or outflow increases in the coming days, the water level may fluctuate again. Currently, the water level is considered normal, around 79 feet, but it is necessary to maintain vigilance.
The local administration and the Water Resources Department are constantly monitoring the situation and may adjust water release levels if necessary. This water level is considered crucial for farmers and people living in the surrounding areas for agricultural and daily use.
Overall, despite a slight decrease in inflows into Mettur Dam, the water level continues to rise, and the situation remains stable. Authorities are working to maintain a balance in water resources through monitoring and management.
