And I urge the Central Government to please release Rs 5,000 crore as initial interim relief, keeping in mind the situation in Tamil Nadu and the five districts, thereby This will help the state government in its efforts to protect the people of the state,” Shiva said.

Officials said people have been evacuated from the affected areas, while pregnant women, children and the elderly have been rescued from the danger areas.
On Tuesday morning, Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected the cyclone-affected areas, monitored the rescue operations and the facilities provided to the affected people.
