Tata Motors reaches 1 lakh sales milestone for EVs, expects rapid sales in future

Tata Motors has achieved a sales milestone of 1 lakh EVs in India. With this feat, the company has strengthened its lead in terms of EV car sales. Currently, Tata Motors sells three EVs i.e. Tigor, Tiago and Nexon in India. The company has further plans to increase the number of EV models in India.

It is important to mention that Tata Motors has taken five years to complete the milestone of 1 lakh unit sales.  The company had sold the first 10,000 units of the car in 44 months and next 40,000 units in just 15 months. Astonishingly, Tata Motors sold the final 50,000 units in last nine months.

“The customers felt EVs were a car for the future, not the present. Fast forward to today, the customer mindset has transformed much faster than what we have anticipated,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, in an interaction with Autocar India. Chandra stressed on the importance of word-of-mouth opinion of early Tata EV buyers. He also pointed out about the crucial role of government policies in the adoption of EVs in India.
