TDP chief urges PM to declare Cyclone Michong a national disaster
Former Andhra Pradesh minister and TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday called on the Center to declare Cyclone Mihang, which caused huge damage in the state, as a national disaster.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu said the cyclone caused widespread devastation in the state, claiming six lives and disrupting lives worth several thousand rupees in at least 15 districts. Chandrababu mentioned in the letter that preliminary assessments indicate huge losses with loss of crops in 22 lakh acres reaching a staggering figure of Rs 10,000 million.
There were also reports of significant damage to cattle and trees, Chandrababu said, while the impact on infrastructure was worrying with about 770 kilometers of roads damaged. He said that important establishments like drinking water, irrigation and electricity will be deeply affected. Chandrababu said that vital sectors like agriculture and fishing have suffered serious damage and mentioned in the letter that four farmers have lost their lives due to the loss of crops. Fishing communities lost their boats, nets and means of livelihood.
Chandrababu Naidu said in the letter, “In view of these circumstances and considering that the impact of the cyclone was not limited to Andhra Pradesh only, but the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu was also affected, I sincerely request to declare Cyclone Michong as a national disaster.” I do.” .Al Prime Minister.
