Telangana News: A rotten corpse was removed from a drinking water tank in Nalgonda
Hyderabad: People in an area of Telangana’s Nalgonda Municipality have been drinking water contaminated by a dead body for the past few days. A water tank located in Hindupur old city area (ward no. 11) of Nalgonda Municipality contained a badly decomposed body, which was taken out on Monday, June 3. The body was found by the municipal corporation’s AE and water lineman during a routine check for cleaning today before releasing water. The tank was last inspected on May 30 and June 1.
“The tank is regularly cleaned in 2-3 days and routine cleaning is done every 3 days,” officials said. However, earlier reports claimed that the inspection was conducted after residents complained of foul smell coming from the drinking water supply. The body was identified as that of Avula Vamsikrishna, 27, who was mentally challenged and a resident of Hanuman Nagar area. The man was reported to be missing since May 24. Police are looking into multiple angles of suicide and murder in the case.
Initial medical examination revealed that the carcass was 2-3 days old. A detailed report will be released after the ongoing post-mortem. Officials have also found injury marks on the carcass. On April 4, around 30 carcasses of monkeys were recovered from an overhead water tank in Nandikonda municipality near Nagarjunasagar. Around 200 residents were drinking water from that tank. Municipal officials found the dead monkeys after residents complained of foul smell.
