Telangana: Thousands of people bid final farewell to Puneetprabh Vijayji Maharajasaheb who died in an accident
HYDERABAD. Hyderabad: A funeral procession was taken out on Monday for Jain monk Punitaprabha Vijayji Maharaj, who died in a road accident on Sunday morning while on his way to Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. A wheelchair operator and a mumukshu (one who is on the path of attaining holiness) named Hiren also died in the accident. Apart from the victims, two other monks sustained serious injuries when a truck allegedly being driven recklessly hit another truck and turned over, knocking them both down. Thousands of mourners gathered in Hyderabad to bid a final farewell and pay tributes. Slogans of ‘Jai Jai Nanda, Jai Jai Badha’ reverberated in the air. Statistics show that every year, around 35 to 40 Jain monks lose their lives in road accidents as they begin their pilgrimage on foot at dawn. A case has been registered and a search is on to nab the accused truck driver.
