The incident took place in Dumratoli village, a dependent village of Bilaspur Gram Panchayat of Kunkuri forest range of the district. This is the fifth incident of people being crushed to death by elephants in the district within the last 10 days.
Earlier, a lone elephant had crushed two brothers to death in Rampadand village of Gram Panchayat Kersai of Tapkara Range. After the incident, DFO Jitendra Upadhyay and other forest department officials have reached the spot. It is being told that before killing the villager Jagarnath Ram, the tusker had damaged several houses in the surrounding village.
