Jaunpur: A strange case of dowry has come to light in Jaunpur, UP. When the educated groom did not get the bike of his choice, he refused to marry her. After which there was a lot of abuse and mild fighting between both the parties. The housewives took the wedding guests hostage. When the police got wind of this, they reached the spot and rescued the wedding guests. Late night the groom and other family members reached the police station.
This case is of Nathupur village. Where Basantu Sonkar was arranging the marriage of her daughter Pooja Sonkar with Jitendra Sonkar, son of Mangala Prasad, resident of Kakarhati, Chandauli. Jitendra is a software engineer by profession. The wedding procession arrived on time at nine o’clock on Wednesday night. After Dwarchar, the varmala program concluded. After this suddenly someone told the groom that he would not get the bike in the pre-arranged dowry at the wedding. On hearing this, the groom told the whole story to his father. When the father took information about this from the girl’s family, he came to know that the bike would be available in the morning at the time of Khichdi ritual.
On this, the people from the boy’s side asked to show the bike but the Gharatis refused to show the bike. On this a ruckus started with abuses. The family members stopped the wedding procession from taking back. People from the bride’s side took the groom’s side hostage and informed the police. After reaching the spot, the police brought the groom and his father to the police station. The girl’s brother Arvind told that cash dowry of Rs 6 lakh was given. Now he started demanding a bike from us. Apart from dowry, lakhs of rupees have also been spent on wedding arrangements, tents, food and drinks. Now the boy’s family is refusing to marry. Secondly, in this matter, police station in-charge Kishore Kumar Choubey said that Panchayat is going on between both the parties. If the matter is not resolved then a case will be registered on the basis of the complaint.
