The plaster of the ceiling suddenly fell on the ground, student’s life narrowly saved
Raipur: The condition of the buildings of Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Vishwavidyalaya Raipur, one of the largest universities of Chhattisgarh, has become dilapidated. A major accident was averted at Azad Hostel located on the university campus on Thursday. Here the plaster of the ceiling of a room was uprooted and suddenly fell on the ground. Although no one got hurt in this incident, but looking at the ceiling of the room, it can be inferred that the accident was very big.
According to information, a student lives in the room on the first floor of Azad Hostel where the incident took place. At the time of the incident, he had gone to his friend’s room by charging his mobile phone in the room. When he returned, he found concrete scattered all over the room. The ceiling of the upper terrace is badly uprooted. He informed the hostel administration about this. In the night itself, he was hastily shifted to another room.
The very next day of the incident, the university administration took immediate action and started the repair work, but after taking stock of that room, it is clearly visible that the ceiling bars have completely rotted. This external plastering and painting is being done only to hide the truth and to run the work. Apart from this, more or less similar conditions are being seen in many other rooms of the hostel. Even there, the plaster of the ceiling is seen to be uprooted.
This university was established in 1964 in the name of Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla, the first Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh. Since then, many buildings have been constructed for new departments in the university campus, but some of the buildings of this university have been built for more than 50 years. Although the university spent money for their renovation in between, but still it is completely dilapidated from inside.
Similarly, the building of Azad Hostel was also constructed in 1974. It has also been almost 50 years since it was made. The condition here is looking better due to the paint on the outer walls, but the infrastructure of the building is no longer alive. Tiles have also been pasted on the damp walls.
In this case, the hostel warden ML Satnami said that the investigation was done as soon as the information about the incident was received. No students were harmed. The repairing work has been started in the hostel the very next day itself. At present the movement in that room is closed.
Ravi Shankar University Registrar Shailendra Patel said that many buildings of the university have become very old. Such complaints come in some buildings during heavy rains. According to the budget, the university keeps repairing dilapidated buildings. Presently there is no proposal for new building for hostel and library building.
