The rape accused was hiding in Odisha disguised as a painter, CG police arrested him
Raigarh. A special police team arrested Haroon Rashid alias Bholu, a rape accused/warrantee who was absconding for 6 years, from Rourkela in Odisha. The accused had hidden himself by changing his name and appearance and was working as a paint and putty worker. A team formed under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Divyang Kumar Patel and monitoring of DSP Cyber Cell Abhinav Upadhyay succeeded in arresting this cunning accused. Accused Haroon Rashid alias Bholu, son of Ramzan Mohammad, 34 years, Siddhi Vinayak Colony, Raigarh, was convicted and sentenced in rape case number 845/2010 of Police Station City Kotwali, Raigarh. He was lodged in Central Jail Bilaspur, but due to his cunningness, he escaped thrice by dodging the police and jail administration. 1. For the first time, he managed to escape from jail.
- For the second time, he escaped from the hospital.
- On September 11, 2018, while being taken to Bilaspur jail, he disappeared by dodging the police at Raigarh railway station.
Arrest operation
An arrest warrant was issued against the accused in a criminal appeal case of the High Court Bilaspur. On the direction of SP Divyaang Kumar Patel, a special team led by DSP Abhinav Upadhyay started searching for the accused.
- The old records of the accused were searched.
- His old contacts and relatives were questioned.
- The police started investigation in Rourkela, Odisha on the basis of old photos and other information.
This is how the accused was caught
The police came to know from a source that a person doing paint and putty work could be Haroon Rashid. After this, the team searched the concerned area and caught the accused while he was doing painting work. He has been brought to Raigarh and presented in the court.
