The video of the Muslim family being driven away from the ghat created a ruckus as soon as it went viral

The video of Agrasen Ghat of Haridwar located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, a Hindu youth is asking a Muslim family to leave the ghat. In the video, the young man is saying that the river Ganges belongs only to Hindus. As soon as this video went viral, its discussion became caged on social media.

Police has now taken cognizance of this video going viral on social media. The case of evicting a Muslim family from Ganga Ghat caught fire after the video was broadcast. When the demand for action was raised on Facebook, Twitter etc. platforms, the police found the accused youth, but the victim’s family could not be traced. The accused turned out to be a contract worker of Shivalik Municipality. The police thrashed him fiercely and after counseling let him off with a warning.

These days, along with the devotees coming on the Chardham Yatra, the local people also turn to the Ganga Ghats in large numbers to get relief from the heat. There is a lot of activity in the whole of Haridwar on the ghats of Ganga and Ganga Nahar, especially in the evening. Three to four days back a Muslim family was sitting at the Agrasen Ghat in central Haridwar. The family consisted of two men, a woman and children. Then a young man reached there and abusing them asked them to leave the ghat. The young man said that Ganga Ghat is not for you. The family also tried to convince him, but the young man did not agree and kept asking them to leave the ghat.

Not only this, the young man also started warning not to come to the ghat again. At the same time someone made a video of the incident. This video was circulating on local WhatsApp groups for several days. In which the accused youth was clearly visible at the Ganga Ghat, abusing Muslim families and driving them away. The matter caught fire on Monday and Tuesday.

When the police of Jwalapur and Kankhal police station investigated on the basis of the video, the accused youth turned out to be a resident of Jwalapur Gol Gurdwara area. He is a contract worker in Shivalik Municipality. The police reprimanded the young man. He also warned of filing a case for doing such an act again. Kankhal Police Station President Nitesh Sharma said that at present no complaint has been received in this matter, the accused youth has been identified and warned.

The entry of non-Hindu is prohibited only at Harki Paidi. Apart from this, there is no such system or order for any Ganga Ghat or any public place, in which there is a ban on the movement of any non-Hindu. Apart from Harki Paidi, people of all religions have always been coming and going on almost all the Ganga Ghats. Muslims also bathe at Gangnahar Ghats, especially in Jwalapur, which has a mixed population. Never before has such an incident come to the fore on any Ganga Ghat.
