Commercial LPG cylinder prices rise sharply, reaching up to Rs 3,237

Delhi: Due to the ongoing war in West Asia, international crude oil prices are rising, which has directly impacted cooking gas prices in India. In response, the price of commercial LPG cylinders for the month of May was increased by a significant ₹993 on Friday, May 1st. This increase brings the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder to ₹3,237.
This increase applies to gas cylinders used in hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments, which is expected to impact food prices in the future. The continuously rising costs have placed an additional burden on the hotel and food industries.
State-owned oil companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise LPG and aviation fuel prices on the first of every month based on international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates. This year’s price revision follows this same process.
According to data, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has been steadily increasing since February 28th. There was a ₹144 increase in March, followed by a ₹200 increase on April 1st, and now a massive increase of ₹993 on May 1st. These three increases have brought the price of commercial cylinders to a new high.
However, there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. Despite the election environment, the government has kept prices stable, providing relief to domestic consumers. According to reports, the price of a domestic cylinder remains at ₹928.50 in Chennai and ₹913 in Delhi.
Experts believe that fluctuations in international crude oil prices and global tensions could further pressure fuel and gas prices in the future.
The steadily rising commercial LPG prices have increased concerns in the hotel and restaurant sector, as this could directly impact the prices of food items reaching consumers.
