The youth tried to commit suicide in the collectorate

Balrampur. Raju, a resident of Sonpur village in Rehra Bazaar, distressed by the road dispute, reached the Collectorate on Wednesday morning and tried to commit suicide. The employees present in the Collectorate showed promptness and saved him. DM Arvind Singh took the matter seriously and heard Raju’s plight. When Raju told his pain with an affidavit, the DM has ordered a magistrate inquiry and FIR against the culprits and action under the Goonda Act.

The victim Raju has said in his statement on the affidavit that the opponent Kanhai and his brother Gurucharan illegally occupied the road to his farm. Kanhai is a police chowkidar in Rehra Bazaar police station and Gurucharan is a havildar there. After obstructing the road to the farm, an attempt is being made to forcibly occupy private land and make a way. He said that the matter was repeatedly complained about in the Rehra Bazaar police station. Gurucharan drives a UP Dial 112 vehicle. Whenever Raju calls on UP Dial 112, instead of taking any action, the police harasses and humiliates him.

He said that he had met the SP twice and lodged a complaint. Still, when no action was taken, he reached the Collectorate on Wednesday, distraught and angry, and said that he would commit suicide along with his opponents. Immediately, the employees of the Collectorate stopped him sympathetically. He was given a bath and the burning sensation caused by petrol was soothed. After this, the magistrates listened to him.

The District Magistrate, in line with an order of the High Court, gave strict instructions that the police will not take possession of any person’s private land.

If the order is not complied with, strict action will be taken against the concerned. In this regard, SP Keshav Kumar said that settling land disputes is the work of the Revenue Department, not the police. Revenue inspectors and lekhpals are called to settle land disputes even on police station days. Police goes with the revenue team so that law and order is maintained while getting possession or vacating the land. Police cannot settle land or road disputes. On calling UP Dial 112, police reaches for immediate help to prevent any untoward incident from happening.
