Theft from a dozen shops overnight, case registered
Settle : In Basna of Mahasamund district, thieves broke the locks of 12 shops in a single night and made away with the goods kept in the shops including cash worth Rs 1 lakh 70 thousand. Five people were seen in CCTV cameras committing the crime, who have been identified by the police. According to the information, thieves committed the crime in Basna between 2 to 2.30 am on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The thieves targeted 12 shops including cement shop, medical store, mobile shop, ice cream parlor, grocery, electronic and fancy store. During this time, they ran away with Rs 1 lakh 70 thousand cash kept in the cart.
On Sunday some people had gone out for a morning walk. When he saw the locks of the shops broken, he immediately informed the shopkeepers he knew. Fearing theft, shopkeepers reached their shops and were surprised to see the sight there. After this he informed the Basna police about the theft. The police took information from the shopkeepers about the stolen goods and cash. Some people have been seen stealing in the CCTV cameras installed in the shop. Basna police station in-charge Ashish Wasnik said that in the CCTV footage, 5 people are seen committing the theft. Two of these people have been identified and the accused will be arrested soon. After the incident of theft in 12 shops in one night, the people of Basna are raising questions on the working system of the police. There is anger among the people towards the police. He says that in the presence of police, the safety of people’s life and property has become dependent on God.
