There are no roads and bridges, children are risking their lives to reach school
Kanker: In village Porondi of Koylibeda development block of the district, school children and teachers are forced to cross the swollen river. Because to go to the school located at Khaspara in village Porondi one has to cross the Porondi river. But since there is no bridge in the Porondi River, children and teachers have to cross waist-deep water and strong waves on foot to go to school every day. Due to lack of bridge, students, teachers and patients along with the general public have to face many problems during rainy days. There are many schools in the interior areas of the district, where there is no road or bridge to reach. But still many teachers here cross the river to reach school every day.
Teacher Ganga Dugga is posted in the primary school located at Khaspara in village Porondi of Koylibeda development block. The in-laws house is also in Ghasipara, another locality of the same panchayat. But there is Porondi river on the way between the two localities, which remains full of water till the end of October. Due to which it is difficult to cross the river during rains. The teacher has been crossing the river to reach school every day despite waist-deep water for the last 10 years.
The teacher said that the villagers have been demanding a bridge across the river for the last several years, but till date no one has paid attention to it. The villagers had applied to public representatives and government offices for the bridge. But we are getting only assurances.
