Thiruvananthapuram municipal elections: BJP announces Mayor and Deputy Mayor candidates

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP has announced the name of V V Rajesh as the mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Asha Nath will be deputy mayor. The announcement was at the press meet held at the BJP state office in Thiruvananthapuram. There were indications till this morning that Sreelekha would become the mayor. However, V V Rajesh’s name came under consideration after the intervention of the RSS. Subsequently, the central leadership proposed Rajesh’s name.
A section of leaders opposed the appointment of R Sreelekha as the mayor. They also filed a complaint with the central leadership on the issue. The organization’s general secretary S Suresh and Thiruvananthapuram City District President Karamana Jayan had visited Sreelekha at her house urgently.
