Thousands of people flee as Typhoon Man-yi advances to make landfall on November 16-17

Manila (Phillippines): Panic strikes as tropical cyclone Man-yi intensifies into super typhoon, thousands of people can be seen fleeing the island. It is likely to hit the mainland around the island province of Catanduanes on Saturday night or early Sunday, then weaken while crossing the main island Luzon. The landfall would be accompanied with intense downpour and high waves on the Philippines’ main island.

Locally called Pepito- has sustained winds of 215 kilometres (133 miles) an hour. It is likely to follow a flood and high waves on low-lying areas, said weather bureau reports. Evacuations and warnings are issued by the authorities.

Philippines is one among the most typhoon-prone areas, with an average of 20 typhoons hit the island annually. A sixth, to occur this year, typhoons of such intensity have drained the resources in the island country making it lag behind in agriculture and economy.
