Tiger kills shepherd woman in Nanjangud taluk
Nanjangud: A 49-year-old woman was killed in a tiger attack at Balluru Hundi in Hediala range of Bandipur forest in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district on Friday.
It is said that the tiger had dragged him for a distance of more than 3 km and left it after eating a part of the body. The deceased is Ratnamma, a resident of Naganpura village.
The incident happened when she was grazing cows with another woman. The second woman reached the village and informed the residents. They discovered his dead body and alerted the forest officials.
RFO, Hediala Range, KR Narayan and other officers reached the spot and took measures to conduct the post-mortem at Nanjangud Hospital and also registered a case.
It is noteworthy that a month ago, 72-year-old Veerbhadra Bhovi, a native of Mahadevnagar, was attacked by a tiger near Hediala range of Bandipur forest in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district. Forest officials took steps to drive it away inside the forest. Although Balluru is nearby, officials are yet to ascertain whether it was the same tiger that had killed Rathnamma.
The villagers alleged that since the forest officials failed to catch the tiger that attacked Veerbhadra Bhovi, it was the same tiger that had attacked Ratnamma. They protested demanding security and fair compensation.
