TIRUNELVELI: DMK Mayor PM Saravanan to face no-confidence motion on January 12
Tirunelveli: DMK Mayor PM Saravanan will have to face a no-confidence motion moved by his own party councilors on January 12, 2024, Corporation Commissioner Thackeray Shubham Gnandeva Rao has sent an invitation to the councillors.
“The no-confidence motion has been moved against the mayor by the councilors under Section 51 (2) (3) of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998. “The council will meet to debate and vote on the proposal on January 12, 2024, at Rajaji Hall in the corporation office,” it added.
38 DMK councilors of the corporation petitioned Thackeray demanding that he move a no-confidence motion against Mayor PM Saravanan of his own party in the first week of this month. They have been protesting against Saravanan for the past several months and have already filed petitions against Chief Minister MK Stalin, ministers KN Nehru, Durai Murugan and Thangam Thennarasu for the removal of the mayor. A DMK functionary said that if the no-confidence motion against Saravanan is passed, rebel councilors of some other corporations will also try to remove their mayors.
