TNPSC releases notification to fill 6,244 posts through Group IV exam
Chennai: In a relief to job aspirants, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) on Tuesday released a notification for the recruitment of 6,244 posts in various Group IV categories. This is the first time that roles like forest supervisor, forest guard and milk recorder will be filled through examinations conducted by the commission.
Till now, these were filled by the concerned departments through departmental recruitment on compassionate grounds and giving preference to local people.
The previous TNPSC Group IV exam was held in July 2022, in which 10,178 posts were filled. Job seekers expressed disappointment over the limited number of vacancies declared despite no examination being conducted last year.
Under Group IV category, posts like VAO, Junior Assistant, Typist, Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies, Bill Collector and others are included in the examination to be held on June 9.
Candidates can opt to be considered for Forest Department posts such as Forest Guard, Forest Guard with Driving License, Forest Watcher and Forest Watcher (Tribal Youth) while filling the application. Candidates who are not interested in these posts can select the option ‘Posts other than Forest Guard/Forest Sentinel’ or select ‘All Posts’.
“Candidates who applied for all the posts will be shortlisted for Forest Department posts based on their ranking. However, many people prefer not to choose these roles as they involve 8 to 12 hour shifts within the reserved forests, which are generally preferred by the local people or people from nearby areas,” says TNPSC Coaching. A teacher at the center explained.
A section of job seekers lamented that till 2019, an average of 10,000 to 12,000 Group IV posts were filled through TNPSC examinations. Exams were not conducted in 2020 and 2021 due to the lockdown.
L Rajesh Kumar of Theni said, “Around 18.5 lakh candidates appeared for the Group IV examination in July 2022, the results of which were declared last March. Considering the huge demand for these jobs, the number of vacancies is very less and should be increased to a minimum of 10,000.
The last date for submission of online application is 28th February.
