Trinamool Congress condemns suspension of Derek O’Brien, demands resignation of Amit Shah

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday criticized the BJP-led central government for suspending its Rajya Sabha parliamentarian, Derek O’Brien, and demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, for the violation. , The security of Parliament.

The TMC accused the government of not guaranteeing the security of Parliament and of actively suspending the opposition representatives from the House.

O’Brien was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the winter session. President Jagdeep Dhankhar cited “rebellious behavior” and “bad conduct” as reasons for the disciplinary measure.

The opposition parliamentarians expressed their disapproval of O’Brien’s suspension and expressed their concern over the lack of action against the BJP parliamentarian who authorized the entry of the two persons responsible for the security breach in the Parliament on Wednesday.

“Five parliamentarians were suspended, while no measures were taken against the BJP parliamentarian who issued passes to the infiltrators. Is this justice? The Interior Minister should resign immediately and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should rush to the Parliament and give a statement.” Congress session. Apart from O’Brien, fourteen Lok Sabha deputies were also suspended for altering the procedures of the House.

The TMC leader said that the BJP has not succeeded in guaranteeing the security of the Parliament and the parliamentarians and is now trying to divert attention by suspending the opposition parliamentarians.

Ghosh said: “A parliamentarian has every right to ask questions, even if the consequences are inconvenient. “The BJP is trying to divert attention from its failures.”

O’Brien had requested a debate on the breach of Parliament security.

Commented: “The suspension and expulsion have turned into two powerful tools of the BJP government to intimidate the opposition. “However, tales of threats do not yield results.”

O’Brien, a three-time member of the Upper House of Parliament, had previously faced a suspension from the Rajya Sabha on two occasions for alleged misconduct.

In response, the opposition BJP in Bengal Occidental questioned the allegations considering them baseless. The state spokesperson of BJP, Samik Bhattacharya, said: “TMC has defamed the state with its violent and corrupt policy. Apart from this, TMC parliamentarians in Delhi are also portraying the image of the state through their theatre”.
