Two important halls of Rashtrapati Bhavan renamed
Delhi: The ‘Darbar Hall’ and ‘Ashok Hall’ of Rashtrapati Bhavan have been renamed. It has now been renamed as ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ and ‘Ashok Mandap’. A statement said that Rashtrapati Bhavan, the office and residence of the President of India, is a symbol of the nation and an invaluable heritage of the people. Continuous efforts are being made to make it more accessible to the people. Continuous efforts have been made to make the environment of Rashtrapati Bhavan reflect Indian cultural values and ethos.
In this episode, President Draupadi Murmu President President Draupadi Murmu is happy to rename two important halls of Rashtrapati Bhavan, ‘Darbar Hall’ and ‘Ashok Hall’ as ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ and ‘Ashok Mandap’ respectively. ‘Darbar Hall’ is the venue for important ceremonies such as the presentation of national awards. The word ‘Darbar’ refers to the courts and assemblies of Indian rulers and the British. After India became a republic, it lost its relevance i.e. ‘Ganatantra’. The concept of ‘Ganatantra’ is deeply rooted in Indian society since ancient times, hence ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ is an apt name for the venue.
