UP jail prisoners found dead under mysterious circumstances

SULTANPUR: A magisterial inquiry into the alleged suicide of two recluses in a jail here has revealed that they died under “mysterious circumstances”, an official said on Monday. On June 21, the bodies of Manoj Raidas alias Manju (21) and his first son Vijay Pasi alias Kariya (19) were found hanging from a tree in Amhat jail in Sultanpur district. Penitentiary officials had said that both the recluses had committed suicide due to depression, but on the contrary, Magistrate Judicial Principal (CJM), Sapna Tripathi, concluded in a 24-page investigation report that the deaths were due to the conditions there. There was suspicion and no establishment that Vairagi was depressed. The information was presented to the district judge last week. According to the report, during the investigation the jail authorities told the CJM that the closed-circuit television cameras installed near the “suicide sites” were not working and they had also not given information about the viscera of the victims to the official investigator (CJM). . , During the investigation he recorded declarations of about 20 witnesses, including individual jail personnel, prisoners, family members of the victims and a doctor. The report also questions the different moments of death of the two prisoners, wound marks found on Vijay’s body and the blue color of his fingernails, which point to the possibility that both the prisoners may have been poisoned. . Although Sultanpur district magistrate Krutika Jyotsna confirmed receipt of information about the investigation, she refused to share its contents and said appropriate steps would be taken. Manoj and Vijay were arrested in the murder case of their 48-year-old neighbor Om Prakash. On May 26, Prakash was murdered while sleeping outside his house. During the interrogation of the brothers, they confessed that they had murdered Prakash because he had confused him with his brother Jitendra, who had killed them during a fight a few days earlier. According to Umesh Singh, the then superintendent of Sultanpur jail, after the bodies of both the prisoners were found hanging, he immediately informed his superiors, who also visited the spot. Let us tell you that the police team and dog squad were also called to the spot and nothing unusual was found. No deep wounds were found on the bodies of the prisoners and it was clear that the horse had caused their death.
