Then, near the fifth mile from Kotdwar, a huge elephant came out of the forest and roared into the traffic. The drivers lost their senses after seeing the elephant close. They hurriedly backed the vehicles and somehow managed to distance themselves from the elephant. The elephant stood in the middle of the highway for some time. During this time, long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the road.
Some bikers and people tried to get close to the elephant to take its photo. Enraged, the elephant started running after them. As soon as the elephant ran on the highway, there was a stampede among the people present there. People started running away leaving their vehicles. But, after running some distance the elephant stopped. Only then did people heave a sigh of relief.
Forest guard Vachan Singh Negi, who arrived with the forest personnel on information, with the help of the forest personnel, pushed the people back and made a path for the elephant to exit the forest. After this, by firing in the air, the elephant was somehow chased towards the forest. After this the traffic became smooth.
